    [Electrical] Canon iR 5000-6000 PCL6, Canon iR 8070 PCL6

    Hi,
It's my first post here, you have done perfect job.

I have two copy machines and two problems as well ..

First, when i print on Canon 5000-6000 PCL6 printer, the response time is too slow. For instance, when i try to print a PDF file of 70 pages, i use to wait 10 minutes.
Is related to small ram of printer ? Can i fix it ?

Second, i have the Canon iR 7080 PCL6 printer over 8 years. During the summer works perfect, but when winter is coming the most of printed pages have less ink on left side compared to the rest of the page. The engineer who check the machines says that this happens because of the humidity and perhaps some leak of electricity from the board.

Any idea on how to solve these problems ?

    Thanks in advance

Try FoxIt Reader--Foxit Software: PDF Converter,PDF Creator,PDF Reader & Editor
Better than Adobe PDF Reader and Acrobat

A pdf file should be printed in postscript (PS). PS3 v14.03

    Acrobat ver. ?
    Windows ver. ?
PCL6--- make sure print as image is not selected
change the resolution from 600 dpi (the max for PCL5) to 300

heat_static build up / paper storage & paper quality_printers room location

Have Drum and Mag Roller been inspected & cleaned.
All of the Corona Units were inspected /and or last replaced. ??

what about Glass Copies ?? same issue ??
**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**

      Thank you for your response,

For the Canon 5000-6000 PCL6 the problem exist whether is pdf or any type of file.
      What exactly is postscript?
As far as the resolution, i will check it. Can i upgrade the printer's ram?

For the second issue with iR8070, the problem exist and the glass copies.
I believe that drum and mag roller have been cleaned and corona units should be replaced,
but i will ask engineer for sure.

Is there something else to check?

        ================================================== ================================================== =========
        Postscript
is a programming language that describes the appearance of a printed page. It was developed by Adobe in 1985 and has become an industry standard for printing and imaging. All major printer manufacturers make printers that contain or can be loaded with Postscript software, which also runs on all major operating system platforms.

Postscript describes the text and graphic elements on a page to a black-and-white or color printer or other output device.

PCL is good for printing text.

PS is better for printing graphics, pdf pages, web pages etc. The driver sends a description of the page with the file to precisely control the printing of the page. How well the printer does depends on the capabilities of the printer itself.

        Printer Control Language

        NOTE:

        PCL
is a trademark of the Hewlett-Packard Company.

Printer Control Language, or PCL, is a common printing language used widely by many different printer manufacturers. PCL is supported by many different operating systems which allows for the same printer to work in many different environments.
        • PCL is device dependent. This means that the drivers for this language utilize the printer hardware for creating some of the printed data, usually graphics data such as fill areas, underlines or fonts. This allows the computer to process the print job quickly and efficiently. The printer is then responsible to complete the creation and processing of page data.
        • Individual printers may perform these tasks differently giving you a slightly different output.

        Pros:
        • Fast print processing.
        • Widely supported in many different operating system platforms.

        Cons:
        • The same print job on two different printers may vary slightly.
        • Quality of graphics is dependent on the print device.
        • Not supported in most Macintosh environments.

        PostScript

PostScript language, or PS, is a common printing language also used widely by many different printer manufacturers. It is used heavily in Macintosh platforms and for graphic applications in several platforms.
It is a device-independent page description language developed by Adobe, which is used to print and display pictures and text.

        • Unlike PCL, PostScript is device independent. This means that the PostScript language creates all of the print data and does not rely on the printer for print data. This allow the output to be consistent when printed on more than one type of printer or print device.
        • Specifically, the graphic objects will be consistent and in some cases of higher quality than PCL.

        Pros:

        • Graphical objects are often more detailed.
        • The same print file should print identically on two or more different print devices. (This most beneficial when used for printing drafts on one printer then sending out to a printing company for production.)

        Cons:
        • Print processing can be slow.
        • Not found in as many platforms as PCL.
        • Print file and memory requirements are larger.

NOTE: PPD (PostScript Printer Description file) is a file containing information about a particular PostScript print device's capabilities and restrictions. The information in the PPD is presented via the printer driver.

Bi-Directional SettingHowever, it may be helpful to disable bi-directional communication in the following instances:

        • Printing over the network is slow.
        • A status message appears in the print queue and prevents other jobs from printing.
**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**

The 5000 prints slow because...well... its the great grandfather of the 7080....which is old itself. Make sure printing while spooling is turned on... if it is set to wait until job is ripped before printing it will be slow. Could be your network causing lag. I personally would print your file from my laptop, and if it is quick 70 then it shows you have a network issue.. pdfs take some time to process and when you are using a dinosaur it takes even longer
