[Electrical] Canon iR Adv 5030i Restarting continuously

Hi all,

I have a strange issue with the above mentioned machine.

The machine keeps restarting continuously, it boots up perfectly till you get to the logon screen, it stays on for about 20 seconds after that. you get just about enough time to login and start pressing a few buttons and then it restarts.

We have tried replacing a few boards, power supplies and so on until we found something that just confused the hell out of us. If you disconnect the fax board the machine does not restart (works perfect). we then assumed that the fax board had issues and decided to replace it, as it obviously had some effect on the machine restarting. we replaced the fax board with a new one. now the machine keeps restarting again (with new fax board). as soon as you disconnect the fax board it works perfect again. We have done firmware just to be sure but no change.

Anyone out there can tell me why this would happen or if they have any ideas as how to get round this, the info will be much appreciated

Have you tried replacing main controller 2 - FM4 3838 ?

Start with Boot System Error Diagnosis: Turn ON the Main Power Supply Switch while pressing the Control Panel Power Supply Switch.

Right after the Main Power Supply Lamp lights up once, it lights out instantly, and diagnosis
starts.
When the Main Power Supply Lamp lights out, you can release your finger from the
Control Panel Switch.

I bet on a bad fax plug,connector,bent pin......

i have run the diagnostics tool but all seems well, i dont have a main controller 2 just yet.

ill go through the machine again, and check a few more things, ill keep you guys posted.

Which version of firmware have installed? Did you try with different version? Fax Board Boot Program AE1 can be bad

Hi,

i removed the fax board and upgraded to the latest firmware, but when we replace the fax it starts restarting again. I cant upgrade firmware with the fax connected as it keeps restarting and not completing the update.

will have another go at it today and get back to you.

based on what you have already done, it would most likely be the Main controller 2.

that being said it could also be the DC controller or the firmware, I'd certainly start by flashing the firmware (takes longer but its always good to start fresh) by replacing all rarther than elect to upgrade. if the upgraded firmware doesn't fix it, try MC2 and failing that DC controller.

My bet is as you guys suggested that it is the main controller, but this is not common that the controller goes bad this way, usually the display is black and one green light is on.
