Rec. Paper Jam & Open Cover. NO JAM

me & my co-worker tried to overhauled the canon iR 1600..open everything & cleaned... when we're done & put everything back... it shows "Rec. Paper Jam & Open Cover" &so we try to open again but there's NO JAM at all...

we thought its the sensor problem.. & so we tried to check the service mode>test mode>faculty test>sensor....BUT we don't know how to read or how it works....we're both NEWBIE..never tried opening a copier before...

please anyone who can help us because the department needs the copier so badly...they keep on asking for their copier...thanks much

There's a cover directly below the manual feed tray that 99% of customers(and 40%of techs) miss.
It's there so you can access the paper feed rollers for the cassette.
It's ALWAYS that cover that throws up this fault...open then close the cover and you'll be good to go.
