    [Error Code] Canon A-1 Finisher

I had to replace the A-1 finisher in an IRA c5030. The original A-1 had two trays, the replacement has only one tray, but that's not a big deal to the customer.
After installing the single tray finisher the machine is throwing a 575-0001 error code, which refers to the gripper not moving.
Could this be due to the fact that this finisher has only one tray or is the replacement finisher probably defective?
Do I need to change a setting on the machine so that it knows there is only one tray or is that detected automatically? I haven't found anything about such a setting in the service manual it or the A-1 installation manual.
It's no problem to move the upper tray and board from the old finisher to the "new" one if needed.

    Many thanks.

Assuming it is the same Model Finisher - try dropping the Tray ALL the way down (release the clutch/gear), then physically lift & push the Grippers back inside (if you look hard you can see where they should sit), sometimes (if the Tray is manually lifted for whatever reason) the Timing sequence will be out and also the cartridge will drive into the side of the Grippers on startup.

Thanks! This could be the problem. The replacement finisher is the same model but the tray is sitting up pretty high.

Lowering the tray had no effect, but it was certainly worth a shot. It turned out that the replacement finisher was indeed defective - a problem with the stapler. The research I did actually gave me an idea about how to fix the original finisher. A dab of Super Lube in the right places fixed the problem. Paper ejects correctly every time now.
