[Error Code] Canon ImagePress C1 Error Code E820-0003

I have just started getting this error code. After I turn the copier on, I can hear the cooling fan cycle between fast and slow, then it pulls the error code. I have separately swapped the fan, the primary corona assembly and the driver side PCB board. All to no solution. Same thing happens: the fan cycles the same, and then I get the code. I'm kind of at a loss to what to check next. Does anyone have any ideas?

The error code points to the DC-controller PCB.

Did you try to re-socket the PCB?

It sometimes worked for me, when i just pulled all connections on the PCB and then put them back in.
Or try with different PCB if you have one...

I have not tried anything with the DC Controller PCB. I will try re-seating the connectors next week, as I am on the road for a few days.

Also: in the manual it gives details of uploading a file:
      1) Upload the 'SramDCON.bin' from 'upload the backup data' using SST and save it.

and a bunch of other details after that. Would that be necessary if I swap the board from my parts copier? I don't know if the file resides on the board or not - or if it needs data specific to my machine.

      Thanks

I just opened the back to resocket every connector on the DC Controller PCB. Same thing. The fan just "revs" and then I get the error code.

Can I replace the DC Controller PCB from another machine without downloading new software? I just don't want to get in too deep and cause more headaches.

Now the same thing happened to one of our C1's.

          E820_003

I switched the fan unit from one other C1, to the one giving the error code. Strange thing: Now both machines are up and running.
So, the fan unit, obviously giving an error code on one machine, didn't on the other..

          Part number is:
          FM2-2697-000

To remove: 2 screws, one cable

Well, I swapped the DC-controller PCB. Same thing happens.

Here is a summary of what I have swapped out with my spare parts:
            DC-controller PCB
            Driver Side PCB Board
            The Fan itself
The harness that goes to the fan
            Primary Corona Assembly.

I have also pulled the wires that powers the cleaner to the Primary Corona Assembly, as it was suggested in another post that it could be drawing too much power.

When I turn the machine on, the fan initially spins and then stops. After about 30 seconds (after the wire cleaning process) the fan "revs" for about 5 cycles or so - and then the error code.

Below is a picture of the fan - just to make sure I am working on the correct one!

Thanks so much for your assistance with this issue.

Just to try grasping at straws, I swapped the drum unit out also. No change.

Then in the service mode, I tried to do a check on Fan #7, and it comes back as NG

But I tried it for all the other fans, and I get the same response. Then I checked the other items listed. The random numbers I entered, all come back with the same NG response.

Could there possibly be a connection between these responses and some other board going bad?

I'm just not sure about the "rev"ing of the fan shortly after the fuser roller cycle stops.

I checked the voltage on the red & black wire to the fan, both with the fan connected, and without. The voltage goes up and down consistent with the "rev"ing of the fan. I'm sure it is supposed to be a level voltage. Still stumped. Perhaps a power supply issue?

SUCCESS! Checking back on old posts, the fan does connect to the Driver Side PCB. So I dug back into that board, saw one connector that was not seated fully. I did spray out the connectors with an electronics cleaner spray before re-seating the connectors. Perhaps that was the issue in the first place. But all is working well now. Hope this post helps someone down the road.
