on the old 652 series with the similar fs-526 finisher something similar happened but only in 2 position mode.
when the top stapler was in action and there was enough wobble in its movement due to mal adjustment of the tracks it would loose position of the stapler by moving past a photosensor unexpectedly due to slop, not staple and then eject the set declaring a paper jam. However this was 2 position mode, cant see how this would happen on corner mode as it doesn't have to move - unless its moving out of the corner position some how or getting stuck on something.
