The parts book from KM shows the 4049512 as fitting the C350 only, and the 4049522 is for the C450 only.

You are right. But there are so many sources telling that the 4049512 can be used in the C450 as well. I do not think they all tell lies, ... here are a few examples:

So I am wondering if not both fusers are the exact same, just with different part numbers for different machines?

i recall it being a simple modification to make a c450 fuser go into a c350 or vise versa i can't remember, something stops it seating properly. but electrically it worked once modded. I didn't do it, some one else did.

EarthKmTech is right. There is a stupid metal circle plate that covers a hole on one of the fusers. Get a flatblade a just rip it off. Its at the back of the fuser.

remove little metal circle disc off the rear of the fuser so the seating pin fits. Easy fix
