Thank you Synthohol. Always good to know where the booby-traps can be found. I hate to think of what kind of day you had when you figured that one out!
We all had that day somewhere. My one was on a B42...

If i have to refurbish a machine, i do the following:
1 - Check all Drum Units and replace if needed
2 - Replace developer "dust", A Bag of developer costs me like 5-10$ and hold for 1 color machine
3 - Check fusing Unit and replace if needed
4 - Check transferbelt and replace belt if needed
5 - Check Waste Toner Hoper
6 - Check Firmware and update if needed
7 - Remove all i-options
8 - Check for plastic parts that could break in the near future or are already broken
9 - Replace or Clean all rollers
10 - Adjust ADF if needed

Thanks for the additional input and suggestions. Looks like I have myself a good project to get started on this weekend. I'm going to start by pulling and inspecting some of the parts you all suggested. At the moment the only replacement part I have is the upper fuser roller, so I'll install that too. And I'm going to try those fax settings.
I recognize this tech is your profession and not a hobby, so I very much appreciate you sharing your institutional knowledge with a noob like myself.
Thanks for joining me on this adventure. I'll keep you posted.

Some parts goes in "sets" like the drum and cleaning blade. Or the upper fuser roller and the thermistor kit. That will insure the best parts life,

Depending on what MFP Model xou've got it might be worth to note that at the point you suspect an eletrical problem it is most likely better to replace the whole machine. If i have to keep the machine running for whatever reason i'll try to but its just too costly most of the time (Searching the Problem, make sure that it is not an user error) and then trying to get your hands on a healthy board.

At lease the electronics and PSU on these are rock solid. But yea not a bad idea to get a spare set of boards if possible.

40+ppm A3 model from past era should be capable of running it. Even latest 458e may hit that mark. Not sure about 450i though .

We have a 558 running to the 2.500.000. mark with the smallest service ever done to a machine in my company. I am on site only to exchange drums from time to time and even have replaced the transfer belt only once.

At only 384K it sounds like the one I have is just getting broken in
Re: KM BizHub 423 Refurbishing - What to inspect/clean/lubricate/replace ?
As luck would have it I came across a Bizhub 36 (for free!). It's only got about 75K on the counter. It mostly seems to work, but prints are streaky, it occasionally jams, one of the ADF hinges is completely broken, and the ADF fails to feed. That's what I noticed so far...
It spent it's life in a dirty warehouse, it's filthy and banged up so I'm not surprised it's got some issues.
However, it looks like there are quite a few shared parts with the BH 423 I'm refurbishing, so it may be a good donor for spares and as a platform for me to experiment with.
I disassembled the fuser from both the 423 and 36. For reference, these are the part numbers labeled on the fusers:
BH-36: A1UDA721F0065082
BH-423: A1UDA721F1076368
The fuser from the BH-36 is definitely in better shape. Obviously less wear on the gears, thermistors and picker fingers so I'll be rebuilding this one for use in the BH-423.
A few questions on the rebuild:
1. I've cleaned all the parts and removed grease from the gears. What type of grease would you recommend I use? I have Superlube Silicone grease on hand. It should have the operating temperature properties necessary for use in the fuser, but I would like to know what you would recommend.
Here is the TDS: https://www.super-lube.com/Content/I...ing_Grease.pdf
2. I plan to order new thermistors, but I also see 'Thermistor Recover Tape' being sold at copiersupplystore.com (Image below). I was wondering if any of you have had experience refurbishing a thermistor with some fresh tape. I appears the thermistors have Kapton tape on them, and I have plenty of that around...

Yes the B36 is a good donor machine. The document feeder and bad software ruins the machine. Its the same engine but A4 only to reduce the footprint of the machine. Its known as a POS in the industry.
I would be careful to mess around with the thermistors. Any change in the contact surface could lead to over heating. You can try but I would start with the fuser temp set to -10 deg and if it fuses just leave it there. There is a thermal fuse to stop it from destroying the machine but not something I would play with.
Try a piece of Kapton tape on an old fuser and please let us know.

I usually when I have to regenerate these fusers I take new thermistors directly. I feel much more peaceful with a new part especially when it comes to the temperature of the fuser
