I think that all drum cylinders are the same and with the same yield. Only the chip and some plastics are different.
I have seen some DR313K drums lasts up to 180k which is the yield of long life DR-314K or DR-318K.
At the very begining of 8 series DR313 last less due to a thiner drum coating.
Producing more versions of drum cylinder (or any other part) is raising production costs; they make different products by implementing different plastic pieces and chips. Even many chips are the same across different series.
Be wise, don't throw away your money.

I think along the same line but your posts are always welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm in eternally grateful to engineers like you for your service.

        TSBSERVICE & REGSIS,

We're trying KTN r/b kits for the i series drums. So far so good but that's just after initial install. Time will tell if they yield the same. They are only labelled for the 25, 30, & 36 speed color & black. I will try the kit when we need one for the 45/55/65 speeds. My guess is they will do fine for at least the yield expectation of a DR316, which as you have said, installs in the 45/55/65. Yet to see if that drum reset chip will reset a 45/55/65, and at what yield? Will there be a chip available for higher yield? Who cares as long as it resets at all!

Well, THIS was a lot more than I bargained for! Thank you to all techs/engineers for the excellent responses to this question.

It sounds like it could be a lot of work to convert the drums, so maybe I'll hold off for now.

Takes 10 min to make an OEM K to OEM YMC.
Maybe 30 min. to rebuild a used core with all new kit. About $70 savings for K and $190 savings for YMC.
Come on in, the water's fine!

Agree TSB... I guess I'd want to have a machine in front of me when I do it the first time, and (obviously) not in front of a customer or on their machine! I'll probably get around to doing these swaps, but just have to have a quiet weekend where I can mess with it, uninterrupted.
