    C6500 - Squealing Noise + Tray 4 (LCT/LU-202) Varying Registration

    Hello everyone,

It's been a while since I last reached out. I hope you're all doing well. Unfortunately, I have two separate issues with my C6500 that I could use some help with. I'll be giving you all the info I have for each one, so hopefully you can give me a few pointers to begin my troubleshooting

    1. Squealing noise coming from the main body - specifically near the waste toner box/the large filter on the side near the bypass tray. I am being told that it did it once out of the blue a few weeks prior (I wasn't there at the time) but then, since yesterday, if you run the machine for even a short run job, it's guaranteed to start making this noise at least once. The noise comes on randomly while printing and will only go away once printing stops (i.e. once all the spinning in the ADU ceases). If, during printing and with the machine making that awful noise, say you were to hit the stop/cancel button and then restart the job, the noise will go away once printing resumes. Of course, this doesn't fix anything, as it can come back at any time.

I managed to capture a short video. The noise in the video is pretty accurate as to what it sounds like IRL. Like I said, I am certain that the noise is coming from where the filter box/waste toner box sits. While it was making that noise, it was printing good ol' plain 80 gsm paper from Tray 1:

I tried the Paper Feed Motor (M41: 28-0) in Output Check and left it running for a few minutes, but nothing really happened. My guesses as to what's going on is that a. something in the ADU (a bearing or a motor maybe?) is about to go bad or b. maybe there's a blockage in the waste toner system. The sound isn't affecting the engine's operation in any way (yet) nor did it throw any codes at me.

While writing this, I had a "light bulb moment", so to speak. Considering that we use Tray 1 for a very specific kind of job that comes every now and then + the fact that it didn't make that noise while printing from the bypass tray or the LCT (i.e. the trays we use 90% of the time) and we've been printing this very specific job from Tray 1 since yesterday - could it be something in the Tray 1 feeding mechanism or something in the vertical conveyance unit is what's causing this?

    2. Tray 4 (LCT/LU-202) Varying registration in scan direction. This one is pretty self-explanatory: the registration in the scan direction varies by about 2-3 mm - Basically the machine can't keep proper registration throughout a job in that direction resulting in me ending up with a job where registration shifts by a few millimeters basically every other sheet in the scan direction. The only tray affected by this is Tray 4 (LCT). The only thing I could find in the active solutions .pdf is this, which I suppose wouldn't be applicable since only one tray is affected by this?

    Solution ID TAUS0700120EN*
Description: Varying second side registration in the main scan direction.

    Solution
CAUSE: Failed ADU centering sensor (PS65).
SOLUTION: Replace ADU centering sensor (p/n 56UA85510E). Note :Part number provided by Alexander Fedoseev - KMBS/Ft. Myers.Part number and sensor designation in the Service Manual are incorrectly labeled causing confusion when ordering. Part numbers in the Parts Manual are correct.

Should also point out that this happens when printing coated or uncoated (though 90% of the time it's coated) stock 13 x 19" between 100 and 300 gsm. Happens both on simplex and on auto-duplex.

Machine counter is almost at 3,000,000. Looking forward to your suggestions.
