Bizhub 224 Toner level indicator on the main screen.

Was running a larger print job today and it just happens that I was on the regular user mode on the interweb connection. I was surprised that my Magenta, is at 2% and my Black at 18%. Yet I never received any warning relating to low Toner. I did check on the service mode if the option to show the notification is enabled and it was. Similarly on my other C224 with Function Version 7. The Toners are quite low and yet not a single message has appeared relating low toner. Since those machines don't have a chip, could it be that the previous owner reinserted the Toners before and that did something?
It prints fine just I have a potential buyer for both machines and he did want to ensure this Toner level indicator does works properly. Odd request but I told him I will get back to him once I upgraded my knowledge.

The machine doesn't know how full the toner cartridges are. It is relying on the user replacing toner only when it indicates to replace. So if someone replaced the cartridge before the machine indicated it will not show full on the display or web interface. If you want to have it show full you would need to remove the cartridge, vacuum out the sub hopper and run until machine indicates to replace toner. Then open door and reinsert toner cartridge.
There are usually two levels of warnings for toner. One says toner low replace when indicated. And the other says replace toner now. The first one fools the customer into replacing early.

Alright thanks for the info. Just so I understood it correctly. To not waste good Toner that's already installed, I just will need to run with those already inside until it actually tells me to replace toner now?. That sounds right but I wanted to just make sure since on one side it could be tricked by not knowing the Toners could be already empty and on the other hand it must have some kind of a weight sensor on each hopper to detect when Toner is out since you did mentioned it will let you know once there is no Toner in the sub hopper.

There is an actuator that "floats" on top of the toner in the sub hopper. Once the sub hopper empties the actuator falls and a magnet on the actuator triggers a reed switch which tells the machine it is out of toner.

Great thanks, will have to keep an eye on one of them anyway as she started not leaving one of the fans spinning the back constantly while she's asleep so I'm just waiting for probably one of the boards to go or a HDD. Could be related to that "unable to enter sleep mode" message you get if you press the sub power button. They are old machine but so far haven't failed me, plan to upgrade the Ram to 4 gigs total in both and swap out the Hdds to SSDs.
