    [Error Code] J3003 C558...

So there are a couple of reasons for J3003 to pop its head up. Worn out actuator, Bad or dirty sensor, faulty clutch, gunk on the shaft ends and bushings or something in the paper path. Basically the paper fails to register for the start of print signal to happen.

One of our techs worked on this critical C558 at one of our major accounts. The issue originally was noise. He found that the TBU cleaning unit was clogged and proceeded to remove the TBU to clear out the toner and inspect for the probable cause of the problem. The waste toner shoot that conveys the toner from the TBU to the WTB was also clogged. He proceeded to remove the yellow dev-tank to allow access to remove, clean and reinstall the "shoot". After that was done an a new TBU was installed the machine could not get paper past the syncro section giving J3003.

The machine was replaced with a loan and returned to the office for repair. The following morning I had time to look at the machine and found that there was no 24V supplied to the registration roller clutch...

    Any ideas?
    Whatever

...F2E on MFP board for example.

Jip as per the manual I started looking for the ICP. I could not find a layout in the manual that would point out the location of the ICP. An hour later I found the tiny ICP on the back side of the MFPB. Replaced it with the right rated "P(32V3A)" type ICP only to set the FSCB on fire. Ok only smoke no fire but a lot of smoke. The MOSFET switching the erase lamp current to ground left the chat...

Replaced the ICP on the MFPB and the FSCB the ICP blew out again.

I just had this on a C558 as well. In the field for streaking, transfer belt cleaning unit was bound up and tracked it down to the chute going into the waster toner box which I've seen a few times now. Took out the chute, cleaned it and the transfer belt cleaning unit.

Black prints were light, EU was running compatible toners and the EU had a developer unit on hand so we changed it out to check the quality, every single page jammed at registration every time. Fought with it for a couple more hours and was convinced the developer unit had somehow shorted out the Front Side Board.

Took the machine back to my shop, replaced the registration clutch, sensor, FSB, then traced the P2P to the F2E ICP that was blown. Sent the board in to Hytec, came back repaired. Replaced the board, same jam and the ICP was blown again. Sent the board back in for repair (I wish we had the capability to replace the ICP's ourselves) this time I replaced the FSB and the EXCB for good measure before reinstalling the MFP board. Same thing, blew the ICP. Should have caught this WAY before but it wasn't until I looked into what all runs through the F2E ICP, and found that the erase lamp was part of it. It hit me like a ton of bricks that the erase lamps run right by the transfer belt waste chute. Sure enough, pinched wire.

I beat myself up quite a bit over it until another tech showed me this. Thanks for making me feel like SLIGHTLY less of an idiot. Although, it would have hurt less if I was able to replace the ICP myself, and it would have saved me a lot of time.

One day I will do I video on replacing ICP's. I use a standard soldering iron and some help to keep the that microscopic thing in place. Been replacing ICP's on drum chips, dev chips and toners so I have this down by now. Ordering a hot air station next month. Don't know how I have managed to change 22 pin SSOP's and tiny MOSFETS with nothing but a soldering iron...

Most of the replaced board could be fixed by simply looking for and changing ICP's.

Had a 454e today also with chronic J3003. This time the 24V was there but 3.3V on one of the supply lines on the FSB was missing. Was busy removing the PSU to go test on a machine in the shop. The very first connector I pulled just fell out without pulling on it. Pushed it back in properly, tested the machine and presto. Problem solved.
