Might be a problem with the cartridge itself or the staple unit, but replacing the cartridge should be the 1st thing done. Do you have another machine with similar finisher? Just swap the staple cartridge and see.

on similar staple units you actaully have to pull the staple unit out and fish out all the small pieces of staples in it. my guess is that it is either jammed or more likely a sensor is dirty and it thinks that it is out of staples. I would swap out the staple cartridge first like 8050 said

Had this a few times when the stapler mechanism sticks in its runner (the groove at the bottom). If it doesnt return to home position the machine locks it out and gives the message you describe. Switch the machine off/on using the main power switch, then go into tech rep and run the stapler up and down its track (theres a test mode for this). If it catches or jerks as it runs in its track it will need adjusting or lubing as needed.

FS519 is a crap finisher ... but thats besides the point!

remove the staple cartridge, open the metal clasp, remove the staples here. Flip it upside down, with a small flat screwdriver GENTLY press the two clear plastic tabs together slightly to open up the staple cartridge. Remove staples. Look at where the bottom of the staple pack sits in the cartridge, you SHOULD see a small plastic "actuator" arm. Customers always loose this little guy when they replace staples on their own. If its not there, unfortunately you will need to order a whole new staple cartridge. There aren't individual parts available thru Konica.

If its there, take a flashlight and look inside the stapler unit itself. It actually comes out relatively easy with a few screws and some manuvering. Check that a staple isn't lodged, clear it if it is. reinstall, reinstall staples into cartridge, reinstall cartridge into stapler.... test. Once reseated and you close the door (or cheat the door) it should move back into home and fire of 5-10 advancing shots to push the first row of staples into place. If it runs more then 3 seconds something isnt right -- youll be getting the reload stapler message. Redo the above

If you work on Konicas, you should be familiar with this stapler unit and cartridge its the same one used in all there stuff. Grab a used cartridge from a leaser/parts stripper if available and bring em out to compare.

The stapler carriage itself can jam if it loses one of the ball bearings that it rolls on. There are two stub axles that run in the rail, and two separate ball bearings located in quite flimsy plastic hooks.
