Is it like a halo effect or just offsetting? There is a modification to get rid of this problem..you need to fit a mylar film onto the 2nd image transfer plate.( the silver plate next too the transfer roller) The details are in a mod instruction...can`t lay my hands to it at present though.

are the shadows large black patches? or are they small shadows at the end of words or graphics .

Sorry for digging up this old thread, but I'm having now this problem - shadows at the end of words. I'm about to order a new IU, but if there's any info I should know, please tell me.

            Cheers!

If its a sort of drop shadow effect I would replace the transfer roller, have seen this on both c451 and c550 models...

Mrwho, you do not need to fit an IU, the problem is caused by the metal plate next to the transfer roller, there is a mylar mod to fit over this part. A00H703401 Guide Sheet. I normally fit a new transfer roller at the same time. The guide sheet is the fix, I did one just the other week, machine (c550 ) has never done it before and then suddenly at 995K...it started. I now fit this guide sheet to all the c451,550,650 as a pre-emptive strike!!
