Upgrading to PowerPRO 650 PLUS

Just bought a used Konica C6500 with an IKON Powerpro 650 Creo v 1.1
Is it possible just to do a software upgrade to the new PowerPro 650 Plus? Or is it a hardware upgrade also?

Any thoughts?

I have system software for IC304 Plus, the PowerPro650 won't work with software of IC304 Plus, are different hardware.
