C451 ftp connection timeout

Hello

I have been working on a C451 that has developed a scan to ftp and scan to email problem. That being the m/c always errors with a connetion timeout when trying to scan to ftp or email. The m/c Prints fine and we can ping both ftp and email server from the m/c and any workstations. Ports 21 and 25 are both open.

So we set up a network through the laptop using a crossover and created an ftp and email. However on trying to scan to both the error on the copier changed to login error. We checked that extensible authentication protocol service was running on laptop and that user and pass were good, but still got the login error.

Have formatted the hdd tried new mfp and swapped out ram but still NG.

Tried all client settings i.e V1 V2 V1/2 and off also...basically all the settings in the copier have been tried.

Anyone had this problem?

It sounds like your hard drive is toast, even formatting it may not take care of it, when certain sectors are bad.

I have major doubts, that you are solved the FTP/SMTP login problem, by replacing the HDD.
Your troubleshooting sounds like try & error which destroyed a lot of money.
What is your next step, after replacing the HDD occurs the same error?
Help yourself and learn more about the basics using protocols and services.
btw. v1, v2 are SMB protocol versions and have no effect to FTP/SMTP transmissions.

Yeh, I understand that v1 v2 are smb. I should have mentioned we tried to set-up smb also.

Im not sure on what money we have destroyed? The mfp which didnt solve the problem was took off, and will be returned. The old board was put back on.

I also had a network specialist on-site with me at the time. So, as far as protocol basics, I'd say we were pretty well covered. I know some on networking myself, but thanks for your input.

If the error occurs again with a new hdd, then we are just going to blow the machine up with a bazooka.
