Feed problem on 6500 - overprint on litho printed job

Morning All,

Have a huge problem trying to overprint an address on onto a direct mailer which was printed litho. The job seems to be drying out the friction fed rollers in the LCT tray 4 & 5 - the stock is 300gsm Satin.

Has anyone had this issue or have any solutions.

If the offset job has an AQ Coating on you may not be able to feed it - futher - AQ Coatings are generally not heat safe and can leave residue and damage the fuser. If there is not an AQ Coating on the job and you are stating that it is "drying out the rollers" - the first thing that comes to mind for me is that you are getting set-off powder from the press run coating up the rollers. If you take your fingers and rub it gently across one of the mailers - look for any power coming off the sheet on to your fingers - should be white - sort of like baby powder or corn starch. It may be very faint - but it will coat the rollers. If there is a lot - you may have some success putting this into a jogger for several minutes to shake out the excess powder (sometimes this works... sometimes). Alternately, depending on how many you need to do - we have had success wiping them all down with a microfibre cloth to remove any power residue (this is a real pain to have to do). Make sure you are running it short grain through the machine, set to 256 - 300 gsm. Also make sure all your tires --- especially the separation tire is in good condition. If you are having residue (be it ink pulling off the sheet - or powder from the press run) on the rollers you may need to clean them off with something like goo-gone once and a while - just apply a small amount to a clean shop towel and rub lightly on the rollers - let the machine sit for a couple of minutes before you start running again.

this is why you get a used ink jetter the cost you are going to spend to rebuild the fuser after the job would pay for a used seacap ink jetter.
