Why is there a difference between the software counter for color + black using utility/counter and the mechanical counter by power switch?

I've seen MFPs come in new for setup with 5-10 clicks on the mech counter..I believe test prints (service mode) will increment this counter, but not the electronic..Additionaly (for B&W MFPs), this counter will remain accurate if NVRAM is replaced. Emujo
