Upgrading an older sd-501 control board

I have an old serial numbered sd-501 (prior to 15aq) if I upgrade the control board. Is this enough to operate it on c6500 after the flash of course. I'd like to use the accessory but I haven't seen any articles on this type of upgrade. Any one done this before?

Has anyone done this before. As far as I understand it the control board is the part that's out of date and needs to be changed out. I'd rather hear it from someone who actually did it or knows any further details.
