Copystar Ri 4030 continually adds toner

Not familiar with this model. May be a common problem. The gears that drive the toner cartridge are not turning. The toner-add solenoid is clicking on and off just fine. How big a job is it to get to that area? And what part is defective? Thanks.

I've always just replaced the whole toner feed assy with the solenoid, but there is a small drive belt in the back that breaks sometimes.
It's a pain in the butt to get to. have to remove the main board metal frame to get to it. A lot of wires and connectors to deal with.

Make sure that you have the correct toner case in there. if correct, then copydocinc assesment is in order that should be checked.
if you have a know working toner i would try that first as sometimes the augurs inside the toner gets wraped, broken and toner clogging the port hole.

alternatively, you can cheat the switches and see if the toner gear in turning on the machine side. off course remove the toner and flash a light inside the toner compartment.

Thanks guys. I did cheat the door and took out the toner. I saw that the drive gears weren't moving.
How long does replacing the whole assembly take? And what's a ballpark price for the assembly? I'm trying to work up an estimate. Sure appreciate the information. Just what I was looking for. Thanks again.

I can't find the toner drive assembly in the parts manual. I found the toner solenoid and some gears, but not an 'assembly'. Do you know the part number?

The above was an earlier thread on this forum about this issue. take a look and see if anything might be interesting there.

I myself have not replace the toner drive belt, but other techs told me they have. they said lot of time they found the toner case not sitting properly and therefore not machine gear and toner box not engaging properly. ALL of the time i have found either a defective cartridge or wrong one.

hope someone can give you more insight here. I Think copydocinc may have been referring to the toner drive assy and or the metal plate that the toner box sits on. he will have to clarify that for you.

Maybe I'm not getting something here. I took the toner cartridge out and keyed the door. Machine was running, and the toner add solenoid was clicking on and off. But the gear that drives the cartridge gears was not turning at all. Does that not mean the problem is with the toner drive exclusively? Or is there still a possibility there is problem with the toner cartridge? To my way of thinking the cartridge is not suspect any longer. But I've been wrong before.

Re: Copystar Ri 4030 continually adds toner

Ok, so, I have always had another machine to get the assy off of to replace in the machine not working. But after looking in the parts manual, it's on page 32, but
not sold as an assy. It has all the parts listed separately. parts #s 1 THRU 13 make up the whole assy. You likely do not need all the parts in the assy. You will have to take out the assy and figure out what part or parts you need. usually its the solenoid #13 or the drive belt #9 or clutch #2 . These are item #s on page 32 of the parts manual.
I do not know if any of these parts are still available through Kyocera, since they have stopped manufacturing parts for this model(or so I've heard) All that said, if you hear the solenoid snapping back and forth, it is probably good. If you remove the rear cover of the machine, you may be able to see if the drive belt is still attached or broken, without removing anything else and if it is and it is driving the gears etc on the toner feed assy. then you probably only need the clutch. (they call it Clutch container and the part # is 2BL22520) I would find out if you can get the part or the parts first, because of the time it will take to get to the assy and you probably want disassembly/assembly fresh in your mind and do it all at once, rather than disassemble today then get part or parts and try to put back together a week later.

That's the best response I could've hoped for. I now think I am going to pass on that repair. I'm getting it would take you 2~4 hours, and longer for me since it'll be the first time. Gonna try and work something else into the equation. You saved me a big headache I'm sure. Thanks so much!
