    Fs-3140 motivation for upgrade...

Hi, I need some help with words the customer will understand...
I have 2 fs-3140 machines that I feel are due for upgrade, they have both been in service for well over 5 years.
One has done about 720k total and the other about 220k total.
The customers argument is that the machines lifetime should be 900k total...

These machines are tough as nails. I agree with your customer.

The customer will not care how much trouble an aging machine is giving you.
If you want them to upgrade, you have to emphasize how it will benefit them.

      1. Show them how much down time they will save with a new, more reliable machine.
      2. Show them features from a new machine that you think they will be interested in.
      3. Show them the speed, quality and price advantage a new machine could give them.

If that doesn't work then, there really isn't a reason for them to upgrade yet.

Just tell them everyone else is doing it and that should do the trick.

Have to agree with the above. These machine can take a beating and run, run, run. The customer is obviously happy with it. I would refurbish the 700k and cleanup the 200k. Unless you are having issues with them, you let them sit there and collect your rents. Should be hardly any service calls on those. Only one hicupp, if there is a second feeder, they give intermittent jams which is caused by the wear on the tray guides and they will have to be replaced.

ON the other hand the new kyocera M3560 runs at 62 page per minute and i like them a lot. If you can demo one to them, i think they may change their mind.

Main problem with both machines, due to age... the scan quality is very bad... I've tried cleaning everywhere under the glass and mirrors etc. color test charts using u425 and u411 also don't seem to be helping, one of the machines even gives me an error 05 when trying to scan color test chart (u411)
scanning using the DP is terrible!!! very dark.
I think due to age, the exposure lamp, lens and CCD have deteriorated and are no longer serviceable. the only option is to replace the ISU and possibly also the "ribbon" cable. This is very expensive... almost a third of what the machine cost.

These are rock solid machines, i have to agree. That is until scans/copies become pale no matter what you clean and adjust. In that case, there's no other fix than to replace ISU, and it ain't cheap. In that case i would recommend replacing them. Other than that these machines go over a mil easily.
