    Kyocera M6526cdn - adding toner message constantly

    I have a customer that has several Kyocera M6526cdn's and they are complaining about the MFP's always adding toner in the middle of their print jobs and having to wait for it to calibrate. They were using aftermarket toners, so I switched them out to OEM toners about a week ago, to see if this would make a difference but, the MFP's still cycle and say "adding toner" in the middle of print or copy jobs. I'm trying to figure out if this is the "nature of the beast" with this particular MFP, or will this "adding toner," cycle eventually be curtailed once the OEM toners purge out the old generic toners? The "adding toner" message will come on regardless of the job size, it could be 2 clicks vs. 100 clicks. The firmware is up to date and each only have about 75k total clicks. What are your thoughts and thank you in advance.

    Usually the Dev gone. Using some after markets causes this. Switching back to OEM still leaves you with the broken developer unit. Replace Dev and toner and that should do the job.

    Having had Kyo's for years, I've found colour compatible cartridges to be a false economy in the long run. On the mono machines you can get away with it but colours always end up doing this.

      Try removing the transfer belt and vacum out the 4 ports on the transferbelt. Make sure when you install the transfer belt, you move the yellow lever towards the rear of the machine.

        Thank you, Subaro, I actually read your threads on the Gemini Cam toner supply TSB, prior to posting this issue. Vacuuming out the transfer belt assembly was one of the first things I did to see if it would make a difference before OEM toner swap. I also checked Kyo's tech site and did not see any technical bulletins pertaining to this issue. It's adding toner, it just seems like its having issues meeting proper calibration in a timely manner. Unfortunately, I'm leaning in the direction of Jhalfhide's prognosis of replacing the dev. units.

        I have seen how dirty the TA5500i and TA5501i run with generic toners, I was making a weekly appearance, with a vacuum, until the maintenance kits were changed with OEM toners, mind you, none of these were close to the recommended 600k. Since oem toner installs, I only go on occasion to remove a paper clip from the ADF or feed tire change. They run clean.

          Yes, using 3rd party toner to " Cut costs" is a false economy. If every dealer would get together and not cut one another's throats to get the deal then just maybe service departments would be able to afford original toner. Never gonna happen though is it? We sell the Utax version and are moving away from them as they are way too expensive to run and are technologically way behind the likes of Lexmark, Konica, Sharp and Ricoh. Service - wise, there are few adjustments to recover the toner loading apart from fitting costly dev units with no chance of warranty. An engineer once told me that you can't make gold out of lead. So if you put crap in the machine you will get crap out.

            Believe me, I hate compatibles, but most customers will see $25.00 opposed to $75.00 and I would guesstimate 7 times out of 10 they buy the $25.00 toner. I believe this logic to be called "penny-wise, dollar- stupid," and I explain this to the customers but it is usually not an issue until their copiers or printers are broke because of aftermarket crap. I believe the internet has a lot to do with it, purchasing is told to order toner, they order it as cheaply as possible and this is when I get called in to "fix the copier."

            In this particular instant I convinced them to purchase the OEM toner, in hopes it would resolve the issue, but it still " adding toner." I will give them a quote to replace the developing units/ or an entire maint. kit, which ever one will work out to be more cost effective. But, my question, is- Is the "adding toner" message all the time- normal for this MFP? Because if it is the last thing I want to do is sell them a 200k maint. kit at 75k and still have the same issue " adding toner" all the time., after spending around $600.00 to "fix" the issue I would try to warranty the parts, however, they used compatible toners which in turn voids the warranty.

              It's not normal, it is a symptom of a faulty developer unit which is a result of non OEM toner.

                Just to follow up, changed out the developing units, have been using OEM toner and no more adding toner message. Thank you for the help!
