It depends on what your prices are for each tier. Just remember the tiers represent a percentage per color and remember, in most cases, a combination of C/Y/M is used to print the end result. For example, if you put 5% for the end of the 1st tier and 15% for the end of the 2nd, it equals 15% total for tier 1 and up to 45% for tier 2. So, be careful.

****** CBS's comment is not an accurate, but I've seen people get this wrong before *****

When dealing with 3-tier color for Kyocera, the "Percentage" the machine is looking at is the AVERAGE of the C-M-Y, REGARDLESS of the amount of black on the page.

      Examples:
      5% Cyan, 5% Magenta, 5% Yellow, 5% Black = 5% for 3-tier color purposes

      5% Cyan, 5% Magenta, 5% Yellow, 25% Black = 5% for 3-tier color purposes

      1% Cyan, 1% Magenta, 1% Yellow, 4% Black = 1% for 3-tier color purposes

      2% Cyan, 4% Magenta, 6% Yellow, 29% Black = 4% for 3-tier color purposes

In Maintenance mode you can set your tier thresholds, If Level 1 is set to 1.0 and level 2 is set to 2.5, a document with an avg 1% CMY will click a "Color1" page, 1.1% Avg CMY will click a "Color2" page and a document with a 2.6% CMY avg will click a "Color3" page

Also, the data is still stored in the machine even if the feature is disabled, so if you enable it, the regular color meter is no longer visible on the machine or status page and is replaced by Color1, Color2 and Color3. if you change your thresholds, the historical counts do not change but the new thresholds will affect how future pages are counted. If you disable the feature, all three meters will combine back into the traditional color total so it's one way or the other, not both., that same holds true for what is visible by DCAs or systems like FMAudit.

Here's a tip some Kyocera techs don't know, the CMY&K fill percentages for the prior page out the machine can be found by printing a service status page. in other words, run a sample page you wan to check and then jump into Maintenance mode U000 and print only the service status page, the fill percentages for your sample page will be indicated on the status page.
