smb scanning 2003 server over WAN

I have a client that is trying to set up smb scan for a kyocera 2525 on a wide area network on 2003 server SE. All network config is setup appropriately (gateway dns etc...) yet the connection cannot be made to the folder share (root of cset up on the server across the WAN. Permissisons are granted to everyone etc..... One thing I haven't tried is using fully qualified domain name ie. mylogin@mynetwork.com for the user login. Any help on this would be appreciated. I have also tried setting up shares in the home folders of each user. Of course working with their IT department is somewhat similar to asking a plumber come over to fix your tap but not letting him in the door.

    smb

Does scanning to a local smb folder work?
    user name and password entered?

can you use net viewer to web in see the shared folder? if you can see it,
    than its a permission problem.

What does it tell you on the display/error code? Miraculously i have never had to setup smb on this specific model... Is it the same as the Falcons?

Make sure SMB signing is turned off on Server 2003.

This will never happen when dealing with someone elses server

It's not an option. Most of the administrators I have run across are clueless about the SMB signing. In any case, I have not seen a copier that will work correctly when SMB signing is required by the server. So, if you want scan to SMB with a third party device (not microsoft), then you have to disable the requirement for SMB signing. I just turn it off.

              FYI

It turned out to be the fully qualified domain name had to be intered in the smb user login for this unit. SMB is up and running now
