i do not know whats up with your printer but they do not loos the firmware becouse of static its usaly the result of not beeing installed corectly of a faulty flash rom or somthing like that i have never lost my firmware in over 10 years so i canot advise what could be the problem there. the version i have is a lot older than yours and its not an easy job to replace it and if not don correctly will trash your printer for good! but if you realy wish to proceed then contact copygirl as i think she can get the latest version for you

I was also very much surprised that it happened...
Have quite some electronic experience here. Self-building licenced radio equip. , frequency counter (when they were expensive), etc. So I know some stuff is sensitive towards removing data or even blow it up (cmos like ports, high impedance)....
So computer hardware as such with only plugin (certainly nowaydays..) is nothing compared to what I already made. Who makes nowaday a board for a pc, some do externally for special connection to other equipment that does not use common ports on a pc.
Kyocera did not make problem of it... and for the rest it is a very fine machine....for private use, stugy kids and wife and so, we printed already ~33,000 pages... and (EEK...)

I'm aware of the risks of flashing. Did quit a lot of flashing on pc's, drives (CD/DVD's), etc... But I always double check procedures.
So looking forward for my version of the firmware and the flash procedure.

      Many thanks for your worry!

A solution has been found. Thank you to Steveauh (Townsville)

Kyocera in their wisdom have used a foam insulator on the 3 solenoids that disintegrates over time regardless of use.
        1. Open the right side of the printer
        2. Disconnect all connections to engine board
        3. Remove engine board
        4. Remove plastic guard (white)
        5. remove all 3 solenoids
        6. Replace all pads on the solenoids that come up against stops
Registration Solenoid has 2 pads (1 against the solenoid frame and the other on a stop arm, the others just the frame pad)
        7. Keep thickness to around .4 - .5mm Too thick on register arm will cause early printing. use felt or thin cardboard
        8. Reassemble
And that is it. The arms were being magnetically delayed due the metallic contact. It seems to be a regular problem in this chassis FS1000 to FS1030.
