    3050 fax problems

    Hi Guys,

I have a 3050 that is having problems sending and receiving faxes. I have set TO to max, set buad rate to 9600, has latest firmware and turned ECM off. They have no problems with their stand alone fax so I don't think that there is a problem with the phone lines. The fax log had 4 failures on it that said busy. Someone posted on yesterdays post to reformat the HDD. Is this something that will help this problem? Can someone outline the procedure for me as I haven't done that before. I did notice that the machine would flash receiving fax for about 3-4 minutes before even printing a 1 page fax. Could this be a problem with memory.TIA

Try checking the phone cord i have run into if you look at the connector you will see some phone cords have 2 wires in it and some have 4 and this can cause issues with the fax, also make sure you have the machine set to tone and not pulse. And one other thing make sure its just a fax line with nothing on it like call waiting or dsl or some other kind of option that can effect the machine because these machine are more sensative to stuff like that.

is it a dedicated analog fax line or does it go through their phone system?

if you have latest fw and a dedicated analog fax line, hdd format is the way to go. semi-known that the 3050/4050/5050 can develop strange faults and erratic behaviour when hdd isn't in ship-shape. early fw leaves garble on hdd when mfp-functions are used heavy. actually i've been adviced to do a format everytime i change fw. (easy to say, since there is a chance of loosing div user settings like ips and adressbook)

We actually ran in to the same problem last year with the same model and had Kyocera with us as well. When it was all said and done we lost a 400k deal because of it. Kyocera chocked it off to being an issue with the customer's fax server being the issue and we werent so positive it was. One thing to check is to see who these failed faexes are being sent to or recieved from, also is it on short fax transmittals 3-4 pages or large jobs 20-90 pages. We had most of our problems on big fax jobs. And to check to see if the person on the other end is using some type of fax server. Hope this helps.

I will check on the fax server thing and do the hdd format tomorrow. I'll let you know the results in about a week. Thanx

Also watch out for voice over IP fax lines...they seem to work with old crappy fax machines but not with the Kyoceras.
