    km c2525e print file enlarging

Hi all i was wondering if anybody has had a problem with print job files increasing on the print queue. The files being printed are windows word. The files are made up of jpeg images and some text. The file sizes in word indicates about 290k but on the queue they rise to 30mb.So far i have updated the driver to the new micosoft cert driver which did increase the speed very slightly.I have also enabled ram disk on the machine and the driver. The memory in the machine is the standard 256mb.I know if i increase the memory it will help but im sure it still wont make printing a 30mb file fast. The server operating system that the 2525e machine is on is windows 2003 server.Any information would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Uncheck the "Collate" box on the Word print dialog screen. Since sorting/collating functionality is built into the driver there is no need for Word to try to do it too. The hard part will be training customers to uncheck that box.

Thanks for your reply cboucher but this happens when single page files are are sent to print not multiple pages. All of the files are single page A3 size sheets so no collating or finnishing is asked for or needed.
      Thanks

The jpgs are compressed images and show the compressed size in the word doc. When they have been sent to the printer, everytjhing is seperated and they are then uncompressed for ease of printing and then effectively converted to bmp's for printing. I have seen pdf's (which are heavily compressed) go from 10mb to over 100mb depending on the amount of images in the file.

A similar thing happens when you open a jpg in Windows. It will uncompress the jpg to show it on the screen. Bit like having a folded up letter, you need to unfold it to read it.

-to make matters worse, the kyo-driver generates a bigger print file than 'others'. (or at least used to) did test this a couple of years ago with a km-c2630 vs. some ricoh, and the same file got 1,5 bigger through the kyo-driver. we also found out that pcl-setting in driver and kpdl auto-setting on the machine turned out the quickest. haven't done this with up to date driver, so this might be a thing of the past.

either way: a 3-4 mb word file can easily end up being 10-times that as a print file.
