Looking for feedback on the Kyocera P3045dn printers

I have a customer who wants to finally upgrade their HP-4100 printer. I wanted to put them in the Kyocera P3145dn, but it is on BACK ORDER, I messaged my rep for off-lease equip. & he has a few really low meter (under 15K) p3045dn printers.. I don't have any out in the field & wanted some feedback on if it is a worthy printer to do up to 50K per year?

    Thanks,

p3045dn will probably last forever at 50k/yr as long as you keep a fuser, feed/sep assy on hand.

Fuser usually lasts 250-300k everything else lasts forever pretty much.

Are you guys that say the printers last forever using OEM or generic toners?

Is that a serious question? OEM only, if you have been on this site long enough you should know Kyocera's do not work good at all with generic toners.

Yes it was, last company I was at used generic and we always had dev and drum issues. When the numbers were run they saved $40K after parts and time were factored in. I haven't bought any generics for my Kyoceras yet but seems like alot of people are using them.

In my opinion, I agree, KYOCERA machines don't seem to like Aftermarket toners... You may save on toner cost, but if you're not getting the yields out of the drum unit, developer unit & fuser, where is the savings? Stick with Kyocera brand toners & have far more LESS headaches... I have some customers who use aftermarket toners but they know their warranty is void, and parts are not covered ... most common problems are, shadows, background, drum unit not wiping correctly, dash marks on drum, toner melting points are different also, may rub off or contaminate the fuser.... the list goes on & on. I don't claim to be a know it all, but servicing Mita/Kyocera machines since 1986, I kind of know what machines will perform & do with NON-OEM toners.

It drive me nuts when people say that "so and so copier doesn't like aftermarket toners.

First off, you guys talk about "aftermarket" like it's one brand. There are MANY different aftermarket brands and I highly doubt that any of you have tried enough of them to give an informed opinion.

What brands have you tried? In my experience, a person will try one, maybe two, brands and from there on out in their mind all aftermarket toner suck.

                    Rant off.

It drives me nuts, that me just giving my opinion made you fly off the handle...LMAO!! I never said aftermarket toners suck, I said Kyocera machines don't like em...

You are right Billy... I have tried Katun brand & also have tried Innovera & maybe another off brand... But hey, you do you! I don't like making 50 mile trips to a customer because of a quality issue & the machine has less than 100K on it.. I clean & sweep out the developer unit, add OEM toner & never have the same issue a 2nd time. I know there is plenty of people who like Generic toner & good for them, But with my experience of trying it.. it isn't worth the recalls, & other issues mentioned. That's all... JMO have a great day

As a copier tech, you are wise to not use generic toner because you don't know much about it. I'm not knocking you, I'm just stating a fact. For years, I owned and operated a toner cartridge business where we rebuilt our cartridges. I've tested all the major brands and many of the shit companies.

There's a reason that generic toner has a bad name and that's because a lot of it is total crap. The other reason it has a bad name is because techs/customers have a bad experience with a brand and they think all brands are crap.

Here are the the toner companies that have proven themselves to me.

                            - Static Control
                            - Future Graphics
                            - Tomoegawa

Keep in mind that it may take a couple of years from the release date of a new machine until a toner comes to market for it. They won't release a toner unless it is thoroughly tested.

Image Star was the last brand I tried on Sharp. Ran well for months then we got into a "new lot" and techs are running about taking care of all kinds of toner issues. Fortunately I limited this test to one school system so the problem wasn't widespread and it hit all at once. I have tried several brnds over the last 20 years but they never got past the trial stage. I have read on here that Static Control is about the best aftermarket but I am done trying to replace OEM toner that never fails.

Then there were the waste containers. Got talked into a case of these by a different supplier. "These are simple, it's just a box, what could go wrong?" Well, how about the bottoms are COMPLETELY MISSING?! School calls in to say there is toner everywhere. There was no bottom on the waste container they installed a few days ago. These went out to more than just this one school because afterall, what could go wrong with a box?

Now I get to lay in bed at night and wonder where the other 9 are and if they have bottoms missing. Just not worth it.
