I have tried several brnds over the last 20 years but they never got past the trial stage. I have read on here that Static Control is about the best aftermarket but I am done trying to replace OEM toner that never fails.

Then there were the waste containers. Got talked into a case of these by a different supplier. "These are simple, it's just a box, what could go wrong?" Well, how about the bottoms are COMPLETELY MISSING?! School calls in to say there is toner everywhere. There was no bottom on the waste container they installed a few days ago. These went out to more than just this one school because afterall, what could go wrong with a box?

Now I get to lay in bed at night and wonder where the other 9 are and if they have bottoms missing. Just not worth it.

My advice to any copier tech would be to stay away from generic toner. You don't have the equipment nor time to do the testing. I wouldn't take anyone's word for it. Don't even take my word for it. The only way to know for sure is to do the testing. That costs a lot of time and money. You'd really need to be in the business of toner rebuilding.

Let me tell you how good some aftermarket toner is? It's good enough that the federal government mandates that a certain percentage of their toner must be aftermarket.

But like I said, it's too much of a burden for a tech to be worrying about it.

Really good writing skills, Bravo. And commiserations this is almost toner bomb introduced into your machines.
As for compatible toners speaking of A3 models imho OEM toners are quite fairly priced not worth long-term risking to compromise/shorten expensive parts life.

For years, I owned and operated a toner cartridge business where we rebuilt our cartridges. I've tested all the major brands and many of the shit companies.

There's a reason that generic toner has a bad name and that's because a lot of it is total crap. The other reason it has a bad name is because techs/customers have a bad experience with a brand and they think all brands are crap.

Hey, not related much to the thread but I got the wrong toner for Kyocera taskalfa 2321/A that fits in my printer but isn't meant for my printer. I'll be going on a loss and can't get another one at the moment. My technician has advised me since I can't afford to buy another one or resell the one I have at the moment I should just remove the green chip on the toner and it will work with my printer. Does this actually work and should I do it?

I have some customers who use aftermarket toners but they know their warranty is void, and parts are not covered ... most common problems are, shadows, background, drum unit not wiping correctly, dash marks on drum, toner melting points are different also, may rub off or contaminate the fuser.... the list goes on & on. I don't claim to be a know it all, but servicing Mita/Kyocera machines since 1986, I kind of know what machines will perform & do with NON-OEM toners.

Heck I get dash marks with OEM toner

... it is one thing to try non OEM black toner in a copier/printer but a whole lot more troublesome introducing CMYK non-OEM toner into a copier/printer.

A lot of the pressure to introduce non OEM toner into a fleet is because of customers who are in a Managed Print services agreements and pay only for the click charge. Often, to win the deal, the MPS agreement goes non-profitable because the Sales Manager was too aggressive in getting the deal. When the Service Manager reviews the fleet statistics, the Business Owner decides we cannot keep on losing money on this contract so we need to source cheaper toner.

Also, a lot of MPS agreements start from day one on cheaper non-OEM toner as a tool to capture new business.

.. a lot of dealers were forced to try non OEM toner due to supply chain disruptions caused by COVID-19.

Keep in mind that it may take a couple of years from the release date of a new machine until a toner comes to market for it. They won't release a toner unless it is thoroughly tested.
FG and Tomo will supply you with just a toner. I think is that best way is to bay some known brand and not a toner. I am in this job and I fail a lot of toner types from FG or Tomo or from any toner manufacture. Printer repair cost a lot so all toner need to be tested. SCC should do a tests so that is option.
