    M3645idn

Received a call on this machine today. Their power was out this am due to a bird blowing a fuse at the transformer or something. Anyway, after power is back on, the machine is giving the message "Unknown Toner". This is OEM toner. Tried two different ones. I've been doing some research and wonder if the destination code is incorrect or something.

I can not get in to service mode, I believe because their is a fax waiting to print that it will not allow me to delete, and it won't print due to the toner error. When I try to delete, its says cannot delete received fax or something. So I can't check destination code or do a reset due to not being able to access service mode! Any ideas for me? The power going out may have been a coincidence, but I'm not so sure.

Is there a way to get rid of that fax without being able to access service mode?

Power machine off, Unplug it from wall, remove fax line, plug machine back into outlet and power it back up.
As for the toner, you can use the screen, I think its device status, or it should be a orange exclamtion sign, follow the prompts and it should clear up

Not sure about "unknown toner" but for "non-genuine toner" you can hold down STOP and OK keys for 5 seconds, it will prompt "Are you sure", hit YES.
Note that this will show 0% toner level in monitoring software if you are using it.

When a Kyocera will not let you into service mode due to an error, shut it off, unplug it from AC, FAX and network. Open the front cover, plug it back in to AC, leaving the FAX and network disconnected. Turn the copier back on, leaving the front cover open, and enter the service mode code. It should let you in MOST of the time. It will sometimes just give you the finger but it is always worth trying.

The toner contacts are part of the drum unit. Just had a DK3192, which is essentially the same thing do this.. Client said they removed a jam and afterward it just said "non genuine toner" until I replaced the drum.

You are correct in that with a fax waiting to print the unit will not allow you to delete it or get into the service mode. Power down the unit and un-install the fax card on the right side of the unit. Once the fax board is removed from the system and the unit is powered up you will be able to access the service mode. If the unknown toner message is the only problem, press the help key and it will instruct you how to override the message.

Thanks for the replies folks. So, you are saying that the "unknown toner" can be over ridden? I thought I tried to touch the !with no response. I could be mistaken though. will try again!

That is weird, I dont think it was caused by a power failure. Maybe water went inside? You tried diffwrent drums and toner and same issue. Try the waste toner door and spring door on drum unit.

Yes different Drums and toners, OEM....As far as water, I wouldn't think so, its in a clean small medical office. only 14k on it. Sold to them new 15 months ago. Was working fine, until the power pole transformer problem right outside killed their power in the building for 3 hours. Upon power restored, it was doing this. The transformer made a loud bang, wife heard it down the street from this customer. It is hard to see that happening, but hard to pass off as a coincidence also. weird. The waste toner status shows "ok". what are you meaning about the toner door spring?? thanks!
