One might investigate the fine prints of the contract. I can imagine they'd draw a line based of the recommended print volume of the model you choose. According to the offer the A4 models are recommended for up to 1600 pages/month and the A3 models are advertised for up to 4500pages. On the other hand they also list the "monthly duty volume" values wich might indicate that there might be no catch at all and Kyo sees this as a big mixed-calculation with a few customers generating losses but a majority generating enough profit margin to make this idea an overall success.
I think it's odd that you can't place an instant order an that site wich seems more like a contact form made for gathering leads.
It also says "starting at" so there is no guarantee you'll ever get the 99$ offer once the audit reveals you are a high volume customer.
Notice the asterisk next to " Supplies, service and maintenance included," you need to talk to a sales rep to get the full details that right there already raises red flags to me. Also, notice "Short-term, long-term and print/service only." What are they charging for scan related issues? The devil is always in the details. Also, "free install" most companies do "free installs" anyways, they factor that cost into the overall cost of the mfp.
We have a business next to one of our clients that needed a small tabletop mono copier, we quoted them on a M2640idn, they never called back. They had the audacity to call us one day when their new Kyocera M2640idn would not scan, we told them our service call price to resolve their issue, we never heard back from them again. I just happened to stop in a few days later and they were still trying to get their scanning working with Kyocera....two days later! I asked what they were advises to do? They said Kyocera first recommended a firmware update (I knew that would not fix the issue), next they recommended the client get a new patch cable, which they were out getting at the time I stepped in, which may or may not fixed their scanning issue (slim change the patch cable was bad). We could have fixed the scanning issue within an hour, I guarantee it. I wonder if this office is using this $99 unlimited prints program, I did not ask.
But, what I am getting at is, why would they use this service as opposed to a local company that is within a 5 mile distance?
The ad does not say you are getting a 100% new copier or what options are included in the base price.
The ad does say there a five differnt price plans. Therefore for $99.00 per month I would expect a black only desktop A4 copier with a single paper tray.
We discussed the unlimited plan in another thread. It's wasn't Kyocera's version but I suspect it's very similar. You really have to read all the fine print to understand what's going on. Common sense tells us that you can't offer unlimited prints unless you have a grasp on the historical average and feel comfortable they they won't go over.
