    3050 with DF-720 J81

any help with J81 and J96 jams on a 3050 with the DF-720 built in finisher? I have replaced the clutch assembly, the paper conveying switch (actually a sensor) and the detection switch in the conveyance section. the machine NEVER jams when we are there, but, the machine has recorded 170 jams in J81 and 66 jams in J96. Approx. 50 jams at J81 between service calls 5 days apart.

Sounds like you need to observe customer use.

We tried and asked several end users to send print jobs that they feel normally cause them problems, and, of course, no jams.

What about the feed rollers? Have they been cleaned/replaced? Also, check the tension on the idle pulleys. Paper could be slipping on the feed rollers because of too much/not enough pressure.
But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

everything from the jam report shows almost everything from tray 3 (the dual, large capacity tray). That section has been gone over a few times, the machine only has 90,000 total clicks and the modification for the plastic mounts holding the roller assemblies has been done.

We had a similar situation with a customer. What we discovered after a number of calls was the user's were reaching in to retrieve the first few pages of the print/copy job and jostling the internal finisher tray. This caused the switch which tells the machine that the internal tray is in the up position to break contact causing the Jam code. I don't have the manuals right in front of me, but it is a non-adjustable microswitch and the only solution we found was to add several layers of mylar to the switch actuator so just jostling the internal finisher tray didn't cause a loss of contact. If my memory serves me correctly there was a tech bulletin on this some time back though I can find it at the moment. An easy check to see if this is your problem is to just lift up on the internal finisher tray while making a copy or printing, if you get a jam code you know where to look.
