    kmc2525e doublesided copying issue

I have a client who is a graphic artist. Up until a few days ago the copier was printing fine... they have a mac and they use graphics programs such as illustrator and the like to print cd labels.

Of late, we have been having this issue...
from the printer side... when the client tries to print labels... with the bypass set to prepunched the copier attempts to print doublesided copies... even when set to singlesided copies...

    on the mac...
the print driver does not want to accept changes to the settings you can set it to plain paper for the trays and it will go back to preprinted when you save it... you will try and update a preset setting and it will give you the old...

in other words... it will hold the settings but you cann't save them... everything goes to what it was before or automatic...

I am going to update the firmware and reinstall the print driver tomorrow... anyone has any other ideas that i can try...

When you re-install the PPD on the Mac, make sure you delete the old one first. Also make sure that you have the latest drivers (download from the public KMA website). Adobe made some changes five or six months ago that have affected most manufacturer's printers, especially if the file is save with PDF compatibility or as a PDF file, the latest driver resolves the problem.

Also, since you are working with Illustrator, you want to check how they have it the document setup for printing. Illustrator will save the settings with the file and change the print driver settings to what is stored with the file every time you open it. About a year ago we had an Illustrator file that exhibited the same symptoms, the only way we could fix it was to make the changes to the print setup in Illustrator for the file and then save it as a different file, i.e. test.ai and saved as test1.ai, then deleted the original file. We have also seen some issues with saving the file with backwards compatibility to older versions of Illustrator, make sure that they have not inadvertently changed the setting. If they are running Illustrator 10 for example, that is the format they should save in and not try to save to Illustrator 8.0 format.

Hopefully these suggestions will take care of the issue

        PPD location on Mac

        Hello n25an,

in Illustrator, after File=> Print, you see the button printer (down left). When you click this one, you can set the Kyocera printer options, like media type and paper tray.

If you think re-installing the PPD will solve your problem (which I doubt): they are on the Macintosh HD ==> library ==> Printers ==> PPD ==> Resources ==> Contents ==> xx.lproj (depending of the language of your OS GUI) (your case: probably en.lproj)

You can also take a view in Safari: localhost:631 to manage your printer setup (root + password maybe needed)
