Is the customer managing color at all? If they don't have a calibrated environment then they may have to live with what they are getting. There are some profiles out there for taskalfa you may want to look into finding those and loading them into their photoshop.

before you do anything else... check cables... reinstall print driver... make sure your print driver spools then prints... and update firmware to the latest and greatest...

if all thats done and you still have issues then do the following...

check the webinars their is a fix for fine spots or as kyocera likes to call them donut holes...

if its print issue and not copy issue then your main board and/or hard drive might be shot... I think the print option is built into the main board... if it is then my theory holds... if not switch out the print board...

ok now for some practical steps...

you need to contact kyocera or your kyocera area rep and see if they can supply you with a fairly complex photoshop demo document that prints ok on the copier... if this comes out like crap then you either have a bad main board and/or hard drive...

or barring that... call the help desk and ask them to print the file your customer has on their mac/pc to see if it comes out with the same issue...

if it comes out like crap from kyocera then the customer has to format the document properly...

they need to contact their photoshop tech support on how to work photoshop...

photoshop file are usually filled with images... the images are usually compressed... when a document gets to the printer from their mac or pc... the images are uncompressed... this explains why documents can take forever to print sometimes...

when you make a copy.. the copier isn't uncompressing anything... it merely takes what it gets and reproduces it exactly...

a photoshop file is huge... a paper document to make copies is small...

copiers typically break down photoshop documents into text file and image file... and then recombine them... atleast thats my understanding... if this gets messed up... usually this means that something is wrong with the file...

but to prove their is nothing wrong you need a photoshop file... take the photoshop document to your office and run it on a demo copier of the same brand... and see what happens... or have your help desk make a copy... heck send it to me... I got task alfa 250ci I can test it on...

but you have to test it...

your possibilities are... poorly formatted photoshop document... (graphic artists know how to make the program work but are not proffessionally trained on their tools)

a bad hard drive... the hard drive holds the images from the photoshop document...

a bad main board... the main board does the translation...

possibly a bad network with lots of noise if you send a 20mb file from one pc to another in the copiers position and the file is corrupted on the recieving end then you have a network problem... try doing it via shared folders also make sure the file is zipped...

if it takes more than 5 seconds to recieve the file then you got issues... or if the file is corrupted you have network issues...

well chat with you later... have fun on monday...

Who is managing the color space? Photoshop or the 500ci? It makes a big difference. Let Photoshop manage it. Also make sure they are using the KPDL and not pcl driver. Photoshop with a PCL driver can be way off from what you expect. Also do they have the PPD for the 500ci installed in Photoshop? Older versions of Phtotoshop (earlier than CS2) have issues with correctly mapping the colorspace to a PS printer and can require some significant manual manipulation by the user. Last but not least, how do they have the image defined in Photoshop, ie. is it an RGB or a CMYK mapped image? From our own internal use of Photoshop with a 500ci series unit, the settings in Photoshop make the most difference in how the output looks than the 500ci.
