    TaskAlfa 300ci - colour issues

    Hi All,

We have a client that has a TaskAlfa 300ci and prints off a training manual that has the 1st page in colour then all other pages in B&W. The B&W pages contains text as well as animated graphics - not photos. The client has scanned these manuals into the document box using the "Auto (Colour/B&W)" setting. When they go to print it out via the document box, they leave the print settings to "Follow File Property" - which is the default. However, the colour counter increments by more than 1 which it shouldnt be as there is only 1 colour page.

Strangely enough, if i was to scan this document back as a PDF to a shared folder using "Auto (Colour/B&W)" for the scan setting and then print it out with the printer driver set to colour mode, then the colour counter only increments by 1 (like it should).

I also created a blank MS Word and imported a coloured animated clip art. I printed this document out with the printer driver set to B&W. The counter incremented the B&W by 1 like it should. I then scanned this document into the document box using "Auto (Colour/B&W)" and then printed it out via the document box using the "Follow File Property" option. I checked the counter and the colour counter had incremented not the B&W.

If anyone has any ideas on what is causing this and what i can do, it would be great. thanks

    Hi Steve,

To upgrade the latest firmware and install the latest printer driver with KPDL emulation, I hope all issue will be solved. Sorry for the late posting.

The file propery has some of the pages marked as color, so the color count will increment. you also get this problem if you print from a quark file. Converting the file to a pdf is sometimes the only way you can get around this problem. Or what you can do is make a new file saved in greyscale.

        Hi Guys,

Printing the PDF scan from the PC creates no problems as it increments the right counters.

However, when i scan into the document box and then print it out from the document box, the counters are all over the place. This is where my problem is. I cant understand how scanning to SMB as a PDF and scanning into the document box can give different file properties. I would have thought that if scanning to a PDF resulted in 1 colour page and 9 B&W pages, then scanning into the document box should yield the same result as both methods still use the same process. eg. If during scan to SMB as a PDF it treats page 3 as a B&W page, then when you go to scan into the document box, shouldnt page 3 also be treated as B&W page? the only thing i can think of is maybe as Morlock49 has said that converting into PDF has fixed the problem or the print driver is actually overriding the colour properties that a "B&W" page may have been given.

I dont think the firmware is the latest however, it was the latest at time of its delivery which was about 6wks ago.

anyhow, anymore input would be great.

when you scan into the box, you are scanning the image as a color scan. therefore the output from the box will be in color and the blacks composite black. when you convert to pdf, the pdf converter automatically converts all composite blacks to only black, thus your counts as a pdf will be correct
