You need the disk with the Scan File utility. Install this first. Go to the machine and use the counter/menu button and go to the scan functions . The password is 2500. In here, give the scan system an IP address and also enter the IP address of the computer where the file utility is located under DNS server address. This must be a static address, not DHCP. Once this is done, exit out of the menu settings by hitting reset, and wait a few minutes for the system to reboot. You won't see it reboot,so don't expect it, just wait a few minutes. Go to the P.C. and in the address bar of your browser, enter the scan system IP address, which will pull up the scanner user interface. When this comes up, you need to set up the user buttons/ address book. If you don't have a manual, go to Kyocera'a web site and download it, cause this is complicated. Choose the #1 user and enter it to set up your user info. You need to install a scans file on your P.C. Now, in the toolbar, choose the icon for the file utility and make sure it is turned off, and right click and choose configuration. When the window comes up, choose setup. Choose new, and in the window, enter the number 001. Next to folder, hit the button with 3 dots and find the folder you set up and click it. Click O.K. and O.K. again and exit out. Now right click file utility again, and hit run. You should be set-up.
I hope this helps. It's complicated to explain when you aren't standing there doing it. When you create the file, make sure you share it out and make sure you allow the scan utility as an exception in your firewall. I can't stress enough that you go to the website and download the manuals on this machine. It is not an easy set-up.
    Good Luck.

Hi, this guide should help. If you don't have the disc to install scanner file utility, you should be able to download it from the Kyocera mita web site.

      Good Luck

If you have wireless internet you have a wireless router. Every wireless router I have seen have ports on the back. You need to run a Cat5 cable from the Scan board to the router.

          On your PC
          1) Start
          2) Run
          3)type "cmd"
          4)type ipconfig press enter
          5)The first 3 octets are often 192.168.1.x
6)Make your Scan IP something like 192.168.1.225
          7)Reboot the copier
8)Repeat steps 2,3 type Ping 192.168.1.225 wait for reply
9)Type 192.168.1.225 in the address bar of IE or firefox
          10) Edit the sender list with Display Name (name that will show up on the copier), and the Hostname of your computer

subnet and gateway have to match what you see when you do the ipconfig on your laptop to insure you have the same network protocols on both machines.

One thing to remember, your laptop most likely has either a Windows firewall or some other type of security. You will need to allow access thru the firewall for the scan file utility otherwise the scanner will not be able to write to the folder on your laptop.

Go to Start>Run and open command prompt (if windows xp just type cmd on the run line)
at the > type ipconfig and hit enter to display all of your current ip set up

If you are on a dynamic ip configuration, using your IP address will not work as the numbers will change periodically. I would recommend changing to a static IP in your network configurations... just something else I was thinking of...

That works, better yet type "hostname" in the command prompt and enter that into the web interface.

If the name is too complicated to remember, you can right click My Computer>Properties and copy the name from there.

That guide was super helpful. For anyone searching the net for scan to PC help with Windows 7, here is my situation that I just resolved thanks to this thread.

My office has a Copy Star CS-2550. The company that sold it to us years ago set up the network to all our then existing PC's. Over the years I've built replacements for the older computers ( all XP based), to newer PC's running Windows 7. Last week the last XP PC died, and with it, our last Scan to PC unit. So obviously I now had to figure out how to set up the CS-2550 to scan to the newer computers. Needless to say there wasn't a video tutorial available that described what to do, so with much searching, this thread has saved the day. The guide JSC posted, combined with the download at this link (Vista works for Windows 7 so use this link if ur running Win7)...

The TASKalfa 305/255 can dramatically lower your TCO total cost of ownership...Kyocera's SMARTtech is affordable

worked like a charm. Understand that when you install the Scanner Utility, you can only access the program from the "tray" on the lower right hand corner of your desktop screen (next to the clock people). Click on the icon and it should say "File Utility" and then follow the instructions on the guide JSC linked. Super easy. Make sure your CS2550 is on during this process and not in sleep/hybernation mode, cuz it might deny you access at first. Good luck all, and thank you Copytechnet.com!
