    looking for feedback

So we are buying a company out and taking on the Kyocera product line and wanted to get some honest feedback as to what you guys like or dislike about them. We are Canon only dealership at the moment so that is my reference point having worked on that product line for over 15 years now.

    Thanks

Falcons are awesome. KM-2530/3530/4030, KM-3035/4035/5035, KM-3050/4050/5050, TASKalfa 420i/520i are all Falcons. The 2nd generation was the best.
The big machines (KM-6030/8030, TASKalfa 620/820) are pretty good too.
Color will probably give a few headaches.
The little machines are decent. The KM-1820 runs well but has too many odd glitches that need workarounds, but the newer FS-1028/1128 are good so far.
Connectivity on the old stuff is usually annoying, and the new stuff is decent but could be a lot better (e.g. SSL email support).

well that is good to hear on the newer equipment. I'm sure we will taking over contracts on some of the older ones as well so that is useful information to have. I am gong to try and start thumbing through the service books this weekend so it should be fun weekend for me!!!

We don't have very many problems with the Falcon series either, and really our color issues have decreased a lot over the year with the upgraded parts and firmware. The 1128's (we've got over 50 in the field) have been virtually problem free. Our biggest problem has been with the registration roller springs losing their tension (and that is usually the customer pulling paper out too vigorously) and that has only been two machines.

I should clarify on connectivity. Printing is easy on everything. Setting up scanning on the older machines can get frustrating. The manuals never really helped me. I even had a customer teach me some stuff about the DB Assistant.

          Let's see, older stuff:
KM-1505/1510/1810 (small copier): rarely breaks down. Often goes past 100K maintenance cycle. The laser dies too often.
KM-1650/2050/2550: Changing feed tires and the transfer is ridiculously time-consuming.
KM-2540/2560/3040/3060: a weird mix between the KM-2550 and KM-3050 (falcon).
KM-4230/5230 or Mita Ai 4040/5050: They're too old, and I'm sick of working on them. Lots of squeaks.
KM-4530/5530: Solid machine, but I never liked its output with grays.
KM-2030: Loves to eat switches. Plastic guides around fuser will crack.
Mita Ai 2310/3010: Ancient, but I still like them. This was the first copier that has the best feed units which are still used in the latest Falcon.
Mita Ai 1515F: F stands for Failure. I hope you don't have any of these.

What I like about Kyocera are the (ceramic) drums. Almost no problems and very rubust. Also the PM-intervals are quiet long, also on the smaller machines.

The first series Taskalfa 250/300/400/500ci had a few issues, but these problems are now solved

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFf Taskalfa's. I dislike almost everything about them. Especially the color.

But out of all the brands I have worked on I found the Kyoceras seem to be the best. In all aspects. Maintence, ease of service, cost of service, consumables, the whole package. This new line of machines coming out seem intresting. The "tool-less" models. Customer support seems pretty spot on. Same with the KMA connect website. Id give it an A-.

That will be a huge plus over the canon drum units!

I think we will mainly be focusing on the B/W series because of the cost difference on the canon B/W units

Thanks for the honesty. Sounds like most other brands I have worked on where a new line comes out and there are all kinds of issues, but the "updated parts" get the units running better.

I've worked on Kyocera's for a very long time and don't think you will be making a mistake. I see lots have complained about the color but I don't agree. Of course there will always be one or two that will be a pain but we have good service out of ours. Kyocera is making there machines not only operator friendly but tech friendly as well. Get your techs training. A machine is only as good as its tech.

thanks Ginger. I think we are going to be starting training in March and we are really excited about this! Look forward to what is ahead of us on these units.
