    KM2050 Email Reports

I'm going round all our machines and setting them up to email their counter readings at the end of the month. I have no problem doing this in general with newer machines when I install them.

My question is regarding the KM1650 and 2050, I've worked little on these machines.... they were a little before my time

Neway, I tried to do this at an office the other day, they also have a Taskalfa 250ci which I set up and is sending reports back no problem.

The 1650 however refused to play ball, first I wasn't even sure if there would be settings for it as there is no scanner board but I logged in to the web interface of the printer board and there it was, albeit with a few less options. I set it up as I normally would:

    smtp: on
server: our roaming smtp ip address
    authentication: via pop acount1
pop3 is again our own server ip address
login details of the email address I setup

both pop and smtp "tests" complete fine but when I try the send now function it just says error.

what error number are you getting? it should say something along the lines of "authentication error 2101", or some such. that would help to narrow down the problem.

that's the thing it literally just says the word error, I know the codes you mean but there's no reference.

I retyped everything as well to make sure I hadn't misspelt anything and opened the taskalfa 250 in a different browser window and cross checked everything.

One thing I did notice though, in smtp section you can send counter reports etc to different email recipients, it's testing this I get ERROR... there is also a maintenance section you can set up reports in, when I test this it says email sent but still none.

I know its a rather vague problem but that's really all I got, I'm confident all server settings, usernames, passwords etc are all input correctly. Remember this doesn't have a scanner board I just want to get reports.

ok, so when you click 'test' on the smtp settings screen, it says ok, but when you try to send the report from the recipient screen, it says 'error'. Just making sure I understand what you've got happening. The Authentication Protocol is set to POP3 Account 1? If that is correct, try setting 'authenticate as' to 'Other', and type your login settings there. I'm looking at the command center for a C5200 & I know the screens are slightly different, so I apologize if I create any confusion.
Is there a long delay before the green scroll bar comes up, or does it come up as soon as you click 'send now'? Or, do you get the error message without the green bar appearing?
Did you reset the printer after making all of your network settings?
Is the printer on DHCP, or is it set with a Static IP, and DNS?
Also, make sure your email size limit wasn't accidentally set to something ridiculously small. ('0' works best, as in no limit)

kyocera.team: you can set up email alerts for the KM-2050, and most other Kyocera printers without installing a scan system. It is built right into the printer interface.

Yes that's exactly what's happening... the pop3 receive test completes correctly as well.

When I click send now the green bar comes up quite quickly and does it's green bar thing for bout 6 or so seconds then gives the error.

I think I tried authenticate as other and may have got an authentication code error but it was late in the day and it may be worth trying again.

It wasn't me who installed this machine originally I do know it has a static IP, unsure of whether DNS settings were even input as I never even thought to check, would that be likely to cause the issue?

Getting it working for this particular customer isn't overly important, I'd like to get all our 2050's emailing reports and saw the opportunity to try it out. I'll be up again tomorrow so any other suggestions are welcome and I'll try them all out.

....would these machines be more likely to have issues sending reports than newer models or have I just stumble upon a random issue, like I said it's pretty much the same setup as other models just without a few extras eg: domain restrictions

If you are using the IP address of your SMTP server, then I doubt DNS is having any effect, but it can't hurt to have accurate info in there.
When the green bar comes up right away, that usually indicates that you are connecting to the server. From what you are describing, it sounds like the error occurred after a link with the server was established. (i.e. authentication error). Though it's possible you specified the wrong smtp port, as well. If you checked the settings against your 250ci, I'm guessing you would have caught that.
I don't think these machines are any less likely to send a report than the newer models, but we have fewer of these set up for email, so it's tough to say.
