    Mita DC-3060 msg SET SORTER

I got this workhorse from a business that wanted it gone. I usually make about 500 copies a month.

I have the Instruction Handbook. Page 117 lists messages and what to do about them. The message "Set Sorter" is not listed. This message shows up recently when the copier is powered up, and no copies can be made.

I have the 10-bin sorter shown on page 111. I've slid the sorter out and back in, but that didn't do anything. The cables from the sorter to the unit appear in excellent condition. I've powered the copier off and back on, but the message still shows up.

Curiously, the error indicator on the main panel has a light on the stack bypass tray (as shown on page 37 in the book). I've made sure that the stack bypass tray is clear. I see no paper in any path.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your advice.

The sorters on this model required their own power. Most set sorter messages came from the sorter being unplugged. KMA used to be a stickler for a shut down procedure with these. As I remember it was turn the copier power off, unplug the main body power, then unplug the sorter power. Then plug in sorter first, main body second and then turn main switch on. If this isn't the issue, then you've got an interlock open or the machine has disabled the sorter due to a code. Perform Sim 96 to get the machine to reset any sorter code and then see if it doesn't recognize the sorter.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I believe there is an interlock microswitch that could also cause your problem....

If you are right, I remember it being toward the rear of the machine.
Usually a folded up business card would cheat it out.
Also make sure all of the bins are level and not out of position
