    Re: SNMP TRAPS

SNMP Trapping is used so that the copier sends SNMP information an SNMP utility of some sort. Traditionally, SNMP works on a request then receive routine where by the copier must be asked for SNMP values to be returned to the computer.

In most cases of SNMP Traps, you must have the Kyocera MIB file for your machine (unless Kyocera use one MIB for their whole fleet) which will then allow you to read and write to the private SNMP community on the copier. The MIB file also allows SNMP software to understand exactly what each OID is within the SNMP communities.

This stuff isn't for beginners but you can do some really cool stuff with SNMP. Things like the copiers meter, toner levels, doors open and heaps of other stuff can be tracked. Once your SNMP software is looking for a certain OID value, you can then get the software to trigger tings like email events, display warnings etc...

Have a look at the following website which might explain SNMP better than I can (its all in my head and getting it from there on to paper / a screen is a pretty horrific attempt):

This document provides an introduction to SNMP traps. It shows how SNMP traps are used and the role they play in the management of a data network.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.
