    [Misc] FS-2020 Background

    HI All.

Got an FS-2020 with a grey background on the copies - looks to me like drum, but could possibly be developer unit. Not done much work on these machines, but found that you can get a maintenance kit which replaces drum/dev/fuser etc. Customer only uses genuine toner.

Life on these parts is supposed to be 300,000 but this baby has only done 240,000

Am I in the right ballpark, or has anyone come across a similar problem with a cheaper fix?

    Thanks,

    MAX

Chances are it is the drum. But without an example it's hard to say for sure. I have only ever had one of these back grounding issue caused by the dev unit.
Depending on how picky the customer is with repeat calls, I would try to just replace the drum unit at this stage as the charge rollers seem to be the culprit. These can also be cleaned to determine if it is at fault.

Post an example if ya can.

Thanks for the prompt reply - I tried to scan some examples but couldn't get the scanner to pick up the background it's pretty pale! If I were to describe it, I'd say the prints look like they do from a digital Panasonic copier when they need a new drum - pale background all over the copies - almost looks like the drum blade isn't cleaning but the drum is actually nice and clean and no residue left after a print. Certainly no reprints of previous characters - just a little background everywhere.

My money would be on the drum too - are you saying they are available as a separate item?

      Thanks,

      MAX

Yeh, the drum unit is available on its own. P/N 302J393032 Description DK-320. I would still try wiping the charge roller with a dry cloth to see if you can change the problem to be sure.

          Max,
Have you cleaned the charge roller? It should be completely black all the way across, if it has turned gray you need to remove it from the drum unit and clean it with a rag and water. **make sure it's completely dry before putting back on drum** Keep us updated on what you find out.

There is also a firmware upgrade that addresses this problem. Try upgrading firmware if it is not current. Have also found developer units causing background issues. Hope this helps.

                Hi Fellas.

                Thanks for all the replies.

I have a new drum assembly on order which should arrive in a couple of days, FYI the first thing I did was to clean the charge roller (and transfer roller too) - should have mentioned that in the original post.

You mention a firmware update - we aren't a Kyocera dealer so don't have access to their intranet - any ideas where I could find the latest version? I have a quick Google but didn't turn up much success.

                Thanks.

HELLO, HAS ANYBODY GOT DRUM CLEANING BLADES FOR THESE DK320 YET? There supposed to last for 300k but i've got a workshop full of them and most only have 40-50k on them with yellowy soft blades that no longer work. I've got blades for all the other dk units except these.

If they are still within the first 3 years, you should be able to send the complete DK320 back to Kyocera under warranty.

These newer printers are over-toning. I've had to dump DV and start fresh on 6 of them. Kyo printers will never be Printer of The Year.
