toners not empty on 250ci ,400ci,500ci

    hi all,
having an ongoing problem with 250ci range were the toner cartridges are not fully emptying while machine is calling for toner. In most cases there is 10 to 20% toner left. When the cartridges are moved and shaken side to side you can feel there is a nice bit of toner left inside but machine will stop and call for toner. threre is no dreaded toner motor c71xx codes and a new toner will get the machine up and running.

FWversion12 is on the machines but this doesnt solve our toner issue. Just can't seem to get these toners to fully empty.

Any advice or suggestions are greatly welcome as this problem is costing us a fortune in toner inclusive contracts. I read a post a while back which suggested that KM may be aware and acknowledged a problem to some dealers about these toners and have given discount or rebate of some kind. If anyone can elaborate on this i will be very greatful. Thanks guys.

      hi eric ,
have seen this bulletin before and can confirm that the toner cartridges have the modified gear attached

I had one customer with the same problem. It only happened with black. At first I modified the gears according to the bulletin, but no result. After replacing the DV-Unit (Black) with the new (modified) one, I never heard the customer again.

          is it stuck on "10%?"

another possibility is that your developer (iron pellets/filings) was starved.

There were so little that's left in there that you cant fill enough toner to satisfy the mix ratio. (cpu controlled)

just had an incident recently. replacing the dlp helped, as suggested and walkthrough by local KM rep on the theory portion.

          on a side note:

KM suggests to clean the DLP out to remove dead iron on regular maintenance... I disagree. I rolled it back in.

My logic is, if those were excess or not used, it means there's a dead spot in the container. Regardless of the number of attempts and amount one remove from their DLPs, there will always be dead developer filings. You can remove them, but cant refill them. Km's warranty is awesome, but who can wait for turn around time.. A symptom if a DLP is starved is bold lettering incompletely filled, after +3 DLP refresh.

            thanks for replies all.
toner levels can be stuck on 10% ,particulary black and will call for toner . we ve been asking some customers to keep hold of the cartridges so we can inspect them for toner. in most cases there is a good bit of toner left in there. one the other day i fished a black toner out of the customers bin and put it in to a workshop m/c and it came up with 20 % .we feel this happening across the range.
do you suggest the modified black dev will solve this issue?

you will need to replace the DLP if any K cartridge you put in reports 10%.

New developer keeps the iron filings out, doesnt cure the problem.

              The new Alphard does.
