    taskalfa 5500i toner giving poor yields ..

    hi all,
    anyone having tk6305 toner giving poor yields of around 18k consistently. i have a good lot of these out in the field and they all are showing poor yields of 18k to 22k at best. these should do 34k.
    all m/cs have latest firmware mar 2012.

      There is a tech bulletin out about these machines over toning. KDA recommends that techs vacuum the machines every 300k to remove excess toner. Betcha that's one reason. But I cannot believe nearly half the toner is being dusted out. Is the waste toner bottle filling up kind of fast. It could be the developer is bad. Also, look at the toner coverage. The toner is rated for 5% or 6% coverage (I don't remember which). The higher the coverage, the more toner that is needed.

          thanks for the reply,
          i have talked with 2 other dealers this week .both are reporting the same problem. one utax dealer has contacted utax this week and just got fobed off.
          interestingly he told me that if you print off the status page it will read 4% on the coverage report. if he takes the same status page and copys it ,the last page coverage will jump to 14% for the same original on the subsequent coverage report
          figure that one out

              We raised this issue with one of our suppliers and there seems to be an issue with excess toner usage when copying from the platen glass.Apparently usage is normal the doc feeder is used.I presume there will be a firmware update at some stage.

                  sry for late rply,

                  Have a 4500i with same issue, and it also has very light background on everything it outputs.

                  Solution for this case was a drum replacement as the original wasnt holding the charge well. Since the platform is still new, it was trial and error that lead to it.

                  leaky drum > more toner gets pulled over > high coverage > pay parking...

                  no signs of background since then.
                  Idling colour developers are not healthy developers.
