if you open the top cover then close it... you get an error message saying top cover open or close top cover... not sure but you get the idea... I did some research and found its either one of the two sensors are bad or an arm on one of the sensors needs to be bent out further so it triggers sooner. Has anyone had a similar situation and did they try anything different...???

It's been a while ... so I could be wrong .
I think this model had a top cover switch on the right side that was very sensitive. The actuator would just slip past the stem on the switch. You may need to wedge the switch so that the actuator meets it squarely.

Check the customer has the toner cartridges in correctly.
This models top cover has a cam lock that hinges at the back right hand side ,check that the top cover is fully open before inserting toner cartridges. I've had customers break the cam hinge and the toner cartridges sit proud in their slots and prevent the top cover from closing.Inauguration to the "AI cancel-culture" fraternity 1997...
