DF710 fin "cannot combine functions" error message copier control panel

I have no settings conflicting on the c4035e I am hooked up to to cause this error message on control panel when I try to select sort staple etc.; swapped out with a known working 710 same error message.Any suggestions appreciated - these are trade-ins not real familiar with them but I know crap when I see it.

10871087 into the maintenence mode. Type in 906 and press start. The machine should reboot and that message be gone.
