Check toner cartridge. May be bound up or missing gear teeth in back of it.

You will have to go into service mode and run each motor one by one so you can isolate this problem.

or you can go the long way by removing the covers and doing a copy to locate where the noise comes from.

My guess is on the registartion unit, remove the door and you will have easy acces to it. I have seen these break or get worn and cause a horrible noise when the gears get broken or become loose. My money is on this area i have had this problem maybe 5 times. Might be worth having a look at the manual and bringing a 2nd hand part with you.

I would say it is the middle feed unit. Try swapping it with a new one or a used one from a quiet unit. It is very easy to change.

I have also seen the belt that drives the bypass unit make a horrible noise when the teeth on the belt wear out. The belt is in the back right over the upper lift motor. If you turn it by hand you will be able to see if any teeth are missing.
