    Best USB flashdrives ?

I would like to start a topic on USB flashdrives. My company provided us all we needed for years but has now stopped and we are on our own. They always ordered Q memory brand which worked fine. I went to Target and bought two 2g usb sticks ( dont even remember brand ). and ended up throwing them away. It would take the firware from my laptop ok . When I inserted into copier, it acted like it was going to work. The display even indicated "firmware update" . About 30 seconds later, it displayed complete but showed 's no change" on the display. So, my question is.
What is the best USB flashdrive brand to buy and what size...I dont need a 16 g or 8 g for firmware. Can.t hardly even find 1g anymore..

Just buy one with a light on it so you don't remove it while in use

Not sure what you mean..With 29 years in this business (17 @ current company ) I surely know not to remove usb while downloading, A light makes no difference one way or another. I was looking for a serious answer since 1 & 2 G usbs are becoming harder to find.

I think he meant the light signals communication, where the copier/printer update may look finished, the drive is still talking.

The internet is still abundant with 2/4gig flash drives. By the time they stop making them, which I doubt, I am sure copiers will have internet-based firmware updates or something.

Anything on NewEgg or TigerDirect should be solid.

Ebay has bulk deals, which is nice, but I wouldn't store anything important on them.

It was a serious answer. I am also in my 30th year in the industry, I can't tell if a USB thumb drive is still writing so I like the LED as way to know positively ...I have seen other techs brick a Ricoh because it was taking too long and they turned the machine off while writing the op panel firmware (mind you the tech was retarded). I carry 10 various USB thumb drives preloaded with the most common firmwares ranging from 2GB to 8GB in size...brand doesn't matter to me. My advise is buy a lot of them, you will reduce service time to load firmware if you use a single USB thumb drive per model, you will be less likely to have a USB thumb drive fail if you are not constantly deleting and adding firmware files to it.

No offense taken on your answer. I work on 3 major manufactur's equip. and Toshiba firmware updates are more burdensome and take longer
than most and you cant use a large capacity usb..I'll stick with Sandisk. I found a few 2G's on the web today. May your service calls be kind to you next week

For me Any Brand works fine, but it has to be 4GB or less and with no Applications or Autorun programs like the CRUZERs do, if you got those, you can format it completely blank and remove the U3 system that wors for me.

Also be aware that some models only allow one firmware file at a time while using a USB drive

I always use Sandisk. Never had any problems. You can get a 4GB Sandisk for $6 from Best Buy. What I always use for all Kyocera that can be updated via USB is an 8GB. From the KM-3050, FS-2000D to the present models, always works. I keep all of the current and last firmware files in a folder and copy the contents to the root when updating. Never, ever had an issue. I used to use a 16GB, however I had the EXACT problem you are describing where it said No Change when using that in an older model such as a 3050 or 3060. 16GB worked fine in a 500ci and newer. Go with a Sandisk 4GB or 8GB. Format first to get rid of the bloatware they put on there though.

Thanks for all the input..I ended up buying a couple 2G and a couple of 4G sandisks and 1 16G to store all my manuals etc.. I heard about the preloaded bloatware. It's called U3. There's a solution to remove it on the Sandisk website..
