I need to update the firmware for Copystar CS-1815.
Is this the only way to upgrade it?

Firmware upgrading requires the following tools:
Compact Flash (Products manufactured by SANDISK are recommended.)

If you do not believe the manual you have ..... perhaps it is not the correct manual .
If you are a certified tech/dealer ; then you have access to the manuals ... if not ....

Get the correct manuals from Paul .

The instructions that you have are correct, does copier have a fax system? if so remove it, the CF card connector is below the fax, if equipped. It is just to tht right of the connector the fax would plug into on the main board.
