But... what is the 'process unit'? The drum unit or the developer unit? I sifted through the ops manual and the service manual... nothing about process unit other than how to take out what appears to be the developer unit. I think its the drum. I feel kind of stupid to even ask, but like they say, 'a stupid question is one that is not asked'.

Re: FS-1128 displays 'replace process unit'
The process unit is the drum unit.
If you pulled out the developer, stick your head in there and your see the drum with two green loops to pull it out by.
After you replace go to U251 to clear maintenance count and U111 to clear drum drive time.
Dont bother cheating the machine, the process unit holds all the waste toner, so you're better of replacing it.Comment

Re: FS-1128 displays 'replace process unit'
I'd think the process unit to be the developer. The machine will say Waste Toner almost full or throw a C7990 code. Though that message may come up when the counter is nearing it's end, so it may be the drum unit."In a cruel and evil world, being cynical can allow you to get some entertainment out of it."

Re: FS-1128 displays 'replace process unit'
Have had this problem before, It is the DV unit. About the drum unit, on an 1128 you can pop the top left and right waste covers off when toner is nearing full and vac it out..Comment

Re: FS-1128 displays 'replace process unit'
I just had one of these today with the message "replace process unit". It just means the U251 Maintenance count has broken 100K. I just reset the U251 counter to zero, and the message disappears. Since these are all out of warranty, and typically you would replace drums and developers only as needed, it would be a good idea to check the U251 count on each visit to keep it under 100K. Otherwise you will end up with extra service calls. I did empty out the toner in the drum, there are two squarish panels on the end opposite the handles that pop out. The drum was replaced in my case only 20K ago.Comment
