[Misc] Have you done an UPDATE kit for 6500i/8000i yet?

I did my first upgrade kit yesterday on an 8000i. I beseech you bretheren, do not do this alone like I did, unless it's the only call you have all day. Not difficult, but time consuming is an understatement. I will never do a solo one again.

I read about this on dnet, what the heck was it for? after reading the horror stories I would seriously consider passing on it.

The new Taskalfa series upper end ( 65 75 8000) both color and black and white have had a reputation for jamming and toner dusting in a big way. Kyocera finally acknowledged this and changed many parts, assemblies, etc. I was visiting a couple of these on a weekly basis to either clean toner everywhere or work on some kind of jam. WEll, it comes as a kit and has a bag of seals, new feed units, new bridge unit, new exit and reg.parts etc. There is even a video traing to watch. I put this off a long time until I just got tired of visiting these same copiers for the same problem.. The new update kit addresses everything and is quite successful. It just takes time to install all the parts. (GREAT hands on experience for techs) It take TWO techs about 4 or 5 hours to put everything in but is well, very well woth it. Our service dept. has seen a 65% reduction in svc. calls on these models. If you have one of these models that is constantly jamming or putting toner dust everywhere, I would do it.

I did 1 and it did take all day. We got reimbursed with some free toner. They need the kit to stop some of the toner dusting and jamming issues. Only the older machines needed done.
